Portrait Of A Black Businesswoman In Office

Meet Sara

Sara Surani describes herself as an archeologist of people: she loves supporting others in discovering the treasure inside of them and loves when they feel confident enough to display the treasures they find inside of them to the world outside of them. She is Pakistan-American and has spent her whole life studying the different things that bring people suffering and that make them come alive.

A lot of different things make Sara come alive. Some of them include researching childbirth in Tanzania, domestic violence and girls empowerment in Mauritius, youth empowerment and environmental conservation in the Amazon jungle, tuberculosis and health epidemics in Peru, people's experiences with incarceration in New Mexico, and how to empower teenage girls globally through a project close to her heart: She Is The Universe. She spends a lot of time thinking about her identity as a "hyphenated" American, and thinking about what home really is. She loves listening to people's stories and loves writing her own. Sara loves collecting leaves and flowers in the fall, pressing them, and sending them in letters to her friends. She is deeply interested in learning more about intergenerational trauma, and often sneaks into college classes just to listen and learn.

She loves surfing, kayaking, going on long walks, reading sci-fi books, and filming short videos. She loves having friends over and cooking for them. She has two younger sisters, Saherish and Zoya, and loves her parents and grandfather very much. She is still learning about how to be human.
